Curro Rodríguez er myndlistarmaður, gjörningalistamaður og tilraunatónlistarmaður sem vinnur með flamenco, helgisiði, hljóðtilraunir og líkamleika í verkum sínum. Verk hans eiga rætur í hráum og áköfum heimi lo jondo, þar sem hefðbundið flamenco er fært yfir í form gjörninga, innsetninga og hljóðverka.

Með rödd, nánd og endurtekningu skapar Rodríguez helgisiðakenndar athafnir þar sem hljóð verður efniskennt og líkaminn að hljóðfæri. Gjörningar hans fjalla um rof, hreinsun og umbreytingu þar sem líkaminn finnur þolmörk sín án þess þó að missa tengsl við hráan kjarna flamencos.

Nýleg rannsóknarvinna hans beinist að tengslum hljóðs, holds og helgisiða við mótstöðu, nánd og líkamlega tjáningu.

Á viðburðinum verður innsetningin virkjuð með lifandi spuna, gjörningi, hljóðmynd og gítarleik, og lýkur dagskránni með DJ-setti. Gestir eru hvattir til að hreyfa sig frjálst um rýmið, staldra við, hlusta, hvíla sig, leggjast niður, dansa, gráta eða einfaldlega leyfa ROJO að hreyfa við sér.

ROJO is an immersive installation and ritual performance that transforms the exhibition space into a living organ: a red interior, a body within a body. The project will be constructed as an environment of heavy red fabric, wax, sound, light and volcanic stone, creating a space that feels both sacred and physical, like entering the inside of a heart.

At the center of the installation, an obsidian stone rests on a red-draped pedestal, surrounded by red candles. This central altar becomes the symbolic core of the work: a point of tension between flesh and stone, heat and silence, wound and ritual presence.

The live activation of ROJO will use voice, body and repetition as its main materials. A rhythmic sound base built from the repeated word rojo forms a flamenco pulse, over which the artist sings and performs. When the voice disappears, the word remains as mantra, breath and echo.

The work emerges from a desire to bring passion, rupture and visceral emotion into a context often marked by restraint and distance. ROJO proposes a space where the body can abandon composure and confront what burns, aches and bleeds.

During its presentation, the installation will remain open to transformation through live activations, workshops and possible collaborations with local artists and musicians. Rather than functioning as a fixed exhibition, ROJO will develop as a living work: a red altar, a shared pulse, a space that gathers the traces of every body, breath and gesture that enters it.

Curro Rodríguez is a visual artist, performer and experimental musician whose practice moves between flamenco, sound experimentation, ritual and the body. His work explores the darkest and most visceral dimensions of traditional flamenco, expanding them through performance, voice, installation and sonic composition.

His performances unfold as ritual actions in which the voice and the body are pushed to their limits. Rooted in the raw essence of lo jondo, Curro approaches flamenco not only as a musical language, but as a physical and emotional force: a space of resistance, rupture and transformation. Through repetition, intensity and embodied sound, his work creates a confrontation with the primal, turning each performance into an act of catharsis.

Currently, Curro is developing a solo body of work where ritual, vocal experimentation and bodily presence become central elements. His practice seeks to preserve the depth and honesty of flamenco while expanding its possibilities into contemporary forms of expression. The voice becomes matter, wound and architecture; the body becomes both altar and instrument.

Through this ongoing research, Curro invites the audience into an intimate and visceral encounter where tradition and experimentation converge, and where performance becomes a ceremony of sound, flesh and resistance.
